Congratulations Matt and Bekki Anderson

Northeast DJs kicked off wedding season by celebrating with Matt and Bekki Anderson at the Inn On Peaks Island. DJ Greg Young provided entertainment, music, uplights and dance floor lighting. Rachel and Forrest of Rachel Bell Photography did a phenomenal job capturing cherished memories for Matt, Bekki, their family and their friends to enjoy.

Even though the month of May was rainy here in Maine, Matt and Bekki were confident in their decision to hold their ceremony outside (and it paid off). The fog and clouds lifted early in the morning and the ocean served as a beautiful backdrop as Matt and Bekki said ‘I do.’ After their cocktail hour we got things started with the most amazing introduction. Each member of the bridal party had a dedicated song and performance as they entered the ballroom. The energy was instantly contagious and set the tone for the rest of the night.

School Dances Coming To A Grinding Halt? Maybe Not!

As you may know, the way in which high school students dance (commonly referred to as “grinding”) has been a hot-button topic that has forced many schools in Maine to stop hosting dances. You may recall that Cape Elizabeth was amongst the first schools (in 2006) that made the decision to cancel their school dances. Recently, we have seen heated debates amongst students, parents and administration at Bangor, Portland and Kennebunk High Schools.

In an effort to ensure that schools continued hosting dances, Northeast DJs began discussing the pitfalls and problems schools encounter when hosting events. Our results showed that many schools try to keep cost of dances down by hiring an inexperienced DJ. In fact, we talked to dozens of schools who have used current or previous students as the DJ for their dances. When this happens, we’ve learned that music selection is often an oversight and the desired outcome isn’t achieved. Teenagers are products of their environment and are influenced greatly by what they see and hear. Without the proper training a DJ is nothing more than a jukebox. Responsibility doesn’t fall on the students for engaging in a style of dance that they see every time they watch TV. Instead, we believe the responsibility falls on the entertainment company to provide an environment that is age appropriate. Just as the Elvis pelvic thrust was controversial, the topic of grinding is raising eyebrows.

To alleviate the stress that accompanies planning a school dance Northeast DJs developed a new brand of environment that allows the students to express themselves in a safe and welcoming environment but also provides parents and administration the peace of mind knowing that the interaction amongst students is age appropriate. By incorporating concert sound systems, theatrical lighting and breathtaking multimedia we are able to provide a unique style of entertainment that works within the parameters the administration and parents are looking to establish. The cost? Not much more than going to see a movie and buying popcorn.

Through our creative marketing efforts and dedication to the students we have noticed an increase in attendance at school dances resulting in increased revenue for the school. Most recently, our efforts were showcased on February 12, 2011 when we provided a full production for the students at Cape Elizabeth High School. After weeks of coordinating with students and administration, Northeast DJs redefined the traditional school entertainment experience and played host to 300 students. We would like to thank Principal Shedd for opening the doors to us and believing that high school dances can be successful!

Northeast DJs would like to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Blais on their recent wedding celebration! Northeast DJs provided ambient room lighting, elegant lighting design, customized dance floor lighting and a full multimedia package including photo slide shows and music videos. Our experienced staff also worked with the bridesmaids and groomsmen to create a unique toast, taking Chris and Chelsea by surprise.

Congratulations Jessica and Daniel

Northeast DJs would like to congratulate Jessica and Daniel Francis who were married on September 4, 2010 at the Holiday Inn By The Bay in Portland, Maine. DJ Greg Young provided music for the ceremony and reception for this amazing couple. I remember meeting Jessica, her mother and matron of honor at the bridal expo back in January. Due to the popularity of Labor Day weekend weddings, Jessica actually booked Northeast DJs at the bridal show.

Shortly thereafter, I began planning the details of the reception with Jessica and Dan. I got an immediate sense of the excitement and energy these two had. From the very beginning the emphasis was on music selection and the reception. It was an absolute blast working with Jessica and Dan and their ceremony and reception was truly amazing!

For the first time this summer I was able to showcase our contemporary package which included a full uplighting package, ambient light towers and premium light show. The video below showcases how these enhancements can set your reception apart from the rest!

Northeast DJs would like to congratulate Erin and Erik Bjorkdahl who were married on August 7, 2010 at the Spruce Point Inn located in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. While attending the Portland Maine Bridal show hosted by the Maine Wedding Association we were fortunate enough to meet a handful of wonderful couples who later became clients. DJ Greg Young met and worked with Erin and Erik immediately following the Portland Bridal Show and was instantly excited about the opportunity to work with them both. It was clear that entertainment and music selection was a critical part of their reception. As professional entertainers we worked with Erin and Erik to create a customized entertainment package that met their needs.

Erin and Erik had the opportunity to make every aspect of their reception a reflection of their personalities. Through careful planning, Erin and Erik were able to put a personal touch on every aspect of their reception. Here are a few examples:
