Maine Disc Jockey service, Northeast DJs, left from Portland, Maine early Saturday morning and ventured north to Castine. Upon arriving on the beautiful Maine Maritime Academy campus we were greeted by friendly smiles, warm conversation and the nicest group of students you could ask for!
After lugging all of our equipment into the dining commons we began our three hour setup. Being a formal event we wanted to make sure we provided the cadets of Maine Maritime Academy with the best show possible but also maintaining a classy and professional appearance. This was the first time that Maine DJs, DJ Danny D and I (DJ Greg), have worked with Maine Maritime Academy. Naturally, there were some butterflies and anticipation. We wanted to make the 2010 Ring Dance as perfect as possible.
What is a ‘Ring Dance’? Great question! Until last night, we had no idea either! The entire night is a celebration to commemorate the hard work that students have put in thus far. While only juniors, they are presented with their rings which are blessed by water from the Seven Seas. This ritual is supposed to bring good luck to these young sailors.
The evening got started with a casual social hour, followed by a formal welcome and then dinner. As you will see from the video footage, dinner was certainly unique! As one of Maine’s premier Wedding DJ services, we are used to providing background music for social and dinner hours. DJ Danny D and I quickly realized we would have to step up our game for the students of Maine Maritime Academy. Why? Well, it was apparent that these folks were ready to have a great time and they sang along to nearly every song we played.
Dinner was followed by the presentation of the rings, a class photo and then things were turned over to us. With the formalities completed, we wasted no time in getting things started. In our first set we threw everything we had at the students of MMA. The response was fantastic and the atmosphere was electric. We brought the music and the light show but these guys brought the energy! Truly transforming the Dining Commons, Northeast DJs brought a nightclub to Castine. A special thank you to Pat and Kim for contacting Maine Disc Jockeys DJ Danny D and DJ Greg. We appreciate the opportunity of being part of your special celebration and we hope we did justice to your event.
We look forward to working with Maine Maritime Academy in the future.
